Am I too old to get a mortgage?
While it is certainly more complicated to obtain a mortgage as you get older, the likely answer to this question is ‘No’. We regularly find deals for applicants over the age of 80, and with mortgage terms that are longer than you might expect.
Does it matter where my income comes from?
All pension incomes are welcomed, including the State Pension, personal pensions, and drawdown pension funds such as SIPPs or investments. Earned income can be accepted beyond a typical retirement age, and certain benefit income may also be considered.
Are Interest Only mortgages still an option?
An Interest Only mortgage may be taken as an effective means of lowering your monthly payments in later life. It is important to remember that unless you make any overpayments of capital during the term of an Interest Only mortgage, the full balance will remain on in its expiry and you will need to have an acceptable means of repaying this at the end of the term. Alternatively, you may qualify for a Retirement Interest Only mortgage, with no need to repay the capital balance in your lifetime.
Can I get a later life mortgage with bad credit?
If you have had only minor issues with managing your credit commitments, then we can probably help you at most ages in obtaining a new mortgage. If you have had any more serious issues managing your credit, there will be better terms available if you are aged around 60 or under.
